GOLF SEASON CLOSED. (“Tjmes-Age” Special.) The lady members of the Gum Grove club closed their season yesterday afternoon. The weather was beautiful and the links looked their best. Mr J. W. Card in presenting the trophies won during the season, congratulated the winners and extended best wishes for their success next season. The following is the list of competition winners:—Senior championship, Miss Williams; runner-up, Mrs Johns. Junior championship, Mrs Carlyon; runner-up, Mrs McCarty. Challenge cup, Miss Williams; runner-up, Mrs Davis. Medal (Mr Rowles’s trophy): Mrs Davis; runner-up, Miss M. Ruane. Stableford (Mrs Burton’s trophy): Miss Williams; runner-up, Mrs McCarty. Bogey (Mr R. Donald’s trophy): Mrs McCarty; runner-up, Mrs Stockley. Eclectic (9 holes): Mrs McCarty; run-ner-up, Miss D. Bloxam. Fourball competition: Mrs Davis and Mrs Lovegrove. Points prize (Mrs Sharp’s trophy); Mrs McCarty; runner-up, Miss D. Bloxam. Eclectic (18 holes), Mrs R. Donald’s trophy: Miss M. Ruane. Most improved player (Mrs Johns’s trophy): Mrs Lovegrove. Medal round: Mrs Carlyon and Mrs Johns. Card Tournament, The Fire Brigade’s weekly card tournament held in the Anzac Hall was well attended. The prize-winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Julian, 1; Mrs A. Tait, 2. Men: Mr C. Skipage, 1; Mr W. Davidson, 2. School Association. The South Featherston Home and School Association held its monthly meeting with Mrs G. Burt, in the chair. Twenty-eight members were present. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Arch Clark. It was decided to hold a concert next month, to be given by the Kahutara Drama Circle. A grant of money was made towards the swimming baths for infants. It was decided to donate £1 to the Rest Room at Featherston. The resignation of Mrs Henderson was received with regret. The “bring and buy” effort realised 18s 6d. The competition (pikelets) winners were: Mesdames B. Burt, Thompson and G. Burt. Post Office Hours. On Labour Day the Post and Telegraph Office will be closed in all branches with the exception of the telephone exchange which will remain open continuously as usual. Mails for despatch will close at 7.30 a.m., and street receivers will be cleared at 7 a.m. On Saturday there will be a delivery of correspondence (including registered) over the counter between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Featherston,, Tauherenikau and Whangaimoana rural services will be suspended for the day. New Water System The pipes in the new water system at are now arriving, and the work of laying them will commence shortly.
