FEATHERSTON

SCOUT FUN FAIR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The gymnasium, which is also the Scout den, was the scene of unusual animation on Monday nigh|, a “bring and buy” function having been arranged by the enterprising members of the troop, and was well patronised by friends of the movement. Stalls containing produce, etc., were attended by Mesdames Halpin, Saunders; Henderson and Houston, the contents being quickly and profitably disposed of. Side-shows of a novel nature attracted considerable attention, especially the one where a couple of black cats were saluted with missiles consisting of old shoes at Id per throw, the boys in charge being attired in pyjamas and night caps. Prizes were won in competitions by Mesdames Halpin (cake), Harkness (salad set) and Mr A. Cook (box of sweets). At one end of the hall in a bower of evergreen, with a rosy camp fire, refreshments were provided. Cubmaster Ann Fellingham with her assistant, Margaret Hayes, and a number of others, added a distinct sparkle of life to the affair, which might be described as a den of fun.

The whole proceedings were enlivened by music from a radio gramophone. The net cash proceeds amounted to £lO 6s, which will be a welcome addition to troop funds. Euchre Tournament. A euchre tournament vzas held on Monday night at the home of Mr and Mrs Lynskey in aid of the Cricket Club. The prize-winners were: Ladies, Mrs Fairbrother 1, Mrs Tutbury 2, Miss Bambry (consolation). Men, Mr Rae 1, Mr Bambry 2, Mr Blain (consolation); Mrs Rea, lucky number; Mrs Lynskey, lucky number. Mr J. B. Davis was the winner of the box of chocolates. Mr Les. Smith proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the host and hostess, which was carried by acclamation.
