TWO SENSATIONS
IN LADIES’ GOLF MISS COLLINS BEATS PAST CHAMPION MISS DUNCAN DEFEATED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. There were two sensations in today’s semi-finals in the ladies’ national golf championship at New Plymouth. First, Miss S. Collins, of Featherston, who gave the twice-past champion, Mrs Fullerton-Smith, of Marton, a tremendous fight all the way, and defeated her on the final green. Then Miss Horwell (Timaru), capped her past fine exhibitions by playing par golf all round the course with the best ladies game ever seen in New Plymouth to defeat Miss Duncan (Wanganui) on the fifteenth green. Miss Horwell is favoured for the final tomorrow, but its certain that she will have a very hard fight. The afternoon’s play was a bogey championship semi-finals results are: Miss Collins beat Mrs FullertonSmith, one up. Miss Horwell beat Miss Duncan, 5 and 3. (Miss Suzanne Collins is a daughter of Mr and Mrs D. C. Collins, of Featherston, and is a former pupil of St Matthews’ Collegiate school for girls, Masterton).
