BOWLING

MASTERTON PARK CLUB OPENING DAY. Nearly one hundred members, visitors and guests were attracted by the perfect weather to the official opening of the Park Bowling Club’s green on Saturday. The president, Mr Wallace, expressed his pleasure in welcoming such a large gathering, adding a special word of welcome to several new members who were making their first appearance on the Park green. Reviewing club matters, Mr Wallace expressed his thanks to the many members who during the winter had formed working bees and in particular to the green committee for its untiring efforts in bringing the green to its present excellent state. Mr Wallace issued a general invitation to all bowlers, both present and absent, to take part in the club’s annual Labour Day pairs tournament. to be held on the Park green on Monday next. Mr Smith, president of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre, congratulated the club upon the excellent green provided and conveyed the centre’s wishes for a happy and successful season. Mrs G. Dagg rolled up the first jack and bowl, and amidst cheers the 193839 season was declared open. The usual match. President’s team v. Vice-President's team, was played and resulted in honours being easy.
