WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. YESTERDAY’S PLAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. October 18. Splendid golf was seen on the New Plymouth links today when the women’s national championship was continued. Tomorrow the right to enter the final will be contested by Mrs Fullerton Smith and Miss S. Collins and Miss J. Duncan and Miss J. Horwell. Although Mrs Fullerton Smith and Miss Horwell are favoured, the other pair are playing very well and the issue is open. The weather today was the best of the tournament, and the course was in ideal condition. A large gallery followed the games. The afternoon play was a stroke handicap for the Donnelly Cup. The quarter-finals of the championship resulted ,as follows: — Mrs Fullerton Smith (Marton) beat Mrs Crombie (Wellington), 4 and 3. Miss Collins (Wellington) beat Miss Stewart (Whangarei), 6 and 5. Miss Duncan (Wanganui) beat Miss Buchanan (Christchurch) at the nineteenth. Miss Horwell (Timaru) beat Miss Helean (Hastings), 2 up. The best gross aggregates for the Mellsop Cup decided over the Coronation Medal, L. G. U. Challenge Bowl, and Donnelly Cup matches, were: —
