DRAMA LEAGUE

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Drama League was held last evening, Mr T. Jordan being in the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. W. Morice and J. A. Kennedy. Very satisfaciory balance sheets of the two recent festivals were presented by the treasurer, Mr Vivian Joseph. That of the Wairarapa festival showed a net balance of £32 5s 9d and that of the elimination festival a net balance of £4l 12s Bd. The thanks of the executive were expressed to the stage managers, Messrs A. Crookenden and T. C. Wynne, their excellent work having been the subject of comment by judges and teams alike. Gratitude was also expressed to the billeters who so generously offered hospitality for the elimination festival. Letters expressing deep appreciation of the work of the local committee were received from the Dannevirke and Levin teams, and also from Miss Elizabeth Loe. A letter was received from Miss Elizabeth Blake notifying the Area that as private reasons necessitate another early visit to England, she found it advisable to resign from the executive of the British Drama League. Great regret was expressed at the loss of Miss Blake’s services for another period and it was decided to send a letter expressing this regret and appreciation of her services in the past. A letter regarding proposed reorganisation was received from National headquarters. After considerable discussion it was decided- to forward the following resolutions to the executive: (1) This area expresses grave dissatisfaction with the organisation at headquarters; (2) the Area, however, desires very strongly that the work of the British Drama League may go on; (3) the Area recommends that a fulltime executive officer be appointed, combining the offices of secretary, librarian and organiser. There will be a National Council meeting in Wellington on November 26 and this will be attended by Mrs E. J. Rich and Mrs M. Cleghorn, who will convey the opinions of this Area.
