LAWN TENNIS

LANSDOWNE CLUB OPENS SEASON. The Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club held its official opening for the season on Saturday in glorious sunshine. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. The president, Mr J. G. McFarlane, extended a welcome to new members and visitors and expressed the hope that the ensuing season would be an enjoyable and successful one. He also paid a tribute to the club’s patroness, Mrs H. E. Pither, who was present, for her splendid assistance to the club at all times. A knock-out Yankee tournament was played during the afternoon, the winners being Miss Greenlees and Mr Marrell, who defeated Miss M. McLaren and Mr McCracken by a very narrow margin. A delightful afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee. PARK CLUB. LARGE ATTENDANCE PRESENT AT OPENING. There was an attendance of 167 players at the opening of the Masterton Park Tennis Club’s season, which took “ place on Saturday in ideal weather. The president, Mr L. S. Nicol, extended a welcome to the visitors and friends and expressed his belief that the club would enjoy a most successful and enjoyable season. A knock-out Yankee tournament was held, the winners being Miss I. Reader and R. Hughes.
