YOUR DRESSING TABLE
SHOULD BE YOUR ALLY. AIDS TO BEAUTY. There is one place in your home which is. intimately yours. It knows more about you than anything else, and it sees you both plain and beautiful It helps you to acquire beauty, and therefore should be treated with every respect and care. It is your dressing table. Do you give it the attention which it demands? Your dressing table serves a twofold purpose. First, and most important, is the service which it gives in aiding you to apply your cosmetics and carry out your beauty treatments; and, secondly, it act# as a storehouse for toilet accessories. ' v It seems rather obvious to state that your dressing table must be placed in a good light. It is immaterial whether it be daylight or artificial light, providing it seeks and exposes ' all blemishes. It is far better to make it harsh and unkind than soft and shaded. The light should be thrown mercilessly upon the face, so that the make-up can be correctly applied. Your main concern is to convince your friends, not yourself, that you are beautiful, and this can only be accomplished by searchingly seeking all those tiny blemishes which other people so often see. Where artificial light is used it should preferably come from above or from both sides of the mirror. No part of your face should be concealed with shadow.
Watch Your Profile. Another important point to remember is that other people not only study you full face, but from all angles, and a complexion which may appear perfect full face is often far from perfect when seen profile. Therefore, the possessor of a tri-mirrored. dressing table is inordinately lucky. Not only can she study her make-up and hair styles full face, but she can also criticise them from all other angles. Only the possessor of this type of dressing table can realise what a boon this is. When the dressing table is so arranged that you receive the maximum benefit of light on your face, the next point to decide is whether your dressing table is going to be utilitarian or purely ornamental. First you must understand that before you can undertake any beauty work, you must have a well-stocked cupboard, and your dressing table should bfc the storehouse for all your beauty articles, not only so that they will be on hand when needed, but also that they will be kept clean and hygienic. On the top of the table you will have only those things which are used and are still ornamental. In the drawers you will carry your lip-sticks, powders, and all other beauty accessories
A Necessary Store. To start a beauty cupboard is not so very expensive, and, once stocked up, it requires very little upkeep. The following list will give you an idea of the essentials required. Cottonwool: A small packet of this should always be kept in the drawer, as it is a great standby for removing creams, applying lotions, and even as a powder puff. Cold cream: No well-kept dressing table is ever without a jar. Cleansing cream: For removing make-up.
Cleansing tissues are very hygiehic for removing creams and lipstick. Glycerine is always handy. Menthol to rub over your eyebrows so that, plucking is less painful. Nails: The finger, and toe nails will require their own small compartment in the drawer, and the articles should include a long, flexible file, an emeryboard, a pair small scissors, orangesticks, nail varnish, varnish remover, cuticle cream, white pencil. Olive oil: An excellent standby for all skin and hair conditions. Peroxide for your teeth, nails, and bleaching purposes. Tweezers for plucking. Toilet oatmeal for face-packs. Witch-hazel for astringent, purposes. Apart from the above beauty.necessities, you will also have , your powders, lipsticks, and rouges .jin their proper place. For Brushes and Puffs. r v In a separate drawer you should keep your brushes and combs. Your hairbrushes and combs should .be kept clean by frequently washing in warm soapy water to which has been added a little ammonia. Powder puffs can be kept, clean by dipping in and out of hot water in which has been dissolved, a tiny piece of soda. This will remove grease and dust, and if a few drops of glycerine are added to the rinsing water the puffs will keep soft. Your toothbrushes should be sterilised by soaking occasionally in hot water, afterwards rinsing in cold water. It is a good plan to have two brushes, and use them on alternate days. This will allow the bristles to keep hard and will prolong the life of the brush. So do not forget that your dressing table ’ plays a much more important part in your beauty programme than you may have realised, and it should be treated and used as a valuable aid in your search for good .looks.
