MAKOGAI LEPERS
TRIBUTE TO SISTER CLEMENT’S WORK. WIRELESS NOW INSTALLED AT STATION. On September 12 last, a pleasant little ceremony took place on the Leper Station of Makogai, when the patients assembled to give a small token of appreciation to Sister Mary Clement, who had just completed 25 years’ service amongst them. The good sister has seen many changes at Makogai in her day, and it has given her much pleasure to 1 see many patients cured. Through the kindness of friends, wireless has now been made available for the leper patients, and on September 27 last the patients were able to listen to the broadcast appeal made by Mr P. J. Twomey on their behalf. An endeavour is being made to make provision for a distribution of delicacies to each patient several times during the year. The fund for this purpose has already reached the magnificent sum of £1,750, and for this Mr Twomey wishes to express his gratitude. The appeal is closing on November 15.
