WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held yesterday. The president (Mrs Munn) welcomed all members and visitors. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames McAllister, Scrivener, Groombridge, Sims, Cruickshanks. In the Roll Call, “The Hobby Which Gives Me Most Pleasure,” gardening was first favourite. Competition results were as follow: Cooking, Mrs R. Allen 1, Mrs Munn 2. Flowers: Bulbs, Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs Webber 2, Mrs Knudson I,' Mrs Allan 2. Best bloom: Mrs Knudson 1. Sewing: Mrs Webber 1, Mrs Cornick and Miss Russell (equal) 2. Mrs Munn was accorded a vote of thanks for her interesting display of miniature rock gardens. A competition in this connection will be arranged later. Delegates appointed for the conference at Eketahuna are Mrs McGovern and Mrs Henderson, and at Masterton, Mrs Henderson and Mrs Woollett. Parcels for the Leper Station may be left at Mr L. Sharman’s shop on or before October 12. The November programme is (hostesses, Mesdames D. McGovern, K. McGovern Nicholls): —Roll call, “Why I Joined the Institute.” Sewing, adults or child’s print frock; Cooking, scones n;.i sul'ana cake. Flowers, posy, wir.i or u.i ■’ red.
