Mrs H. Trask, of Pahiatua, is on a holiday at Hastings. Mr and Mrs D. O. Howden, of Pahiatua, have taken up their residence in Hawera.

Miss J. Johnston, who has been the guest of Mrs R. Kinzett, Pongaroa, has returned to Lower Hutt.

Miss T. Anderson, of Clareville, is the guest of Miss Joyce Kummer, of “Rangiora,” Te Wharau. Miss D. Short, of Invercargill, has arrived in Masterton to take up the position of Supervisor at the Masterton telephone exchange. A delightful party was held on Wednesday night at the Phyllis Bates studio, Wellington, when Mrs Eglinton, Lower Hutt, and formerly of Featherston and Masterton, invited a number of friends to celebrate the engagement of her daughter, Helen, to Mr Bob Meadows. Nearly 100 guests were present and were received by Mrs Eglinton wearing a gown of beige lace. She was assisted by Miss Helen Eglinton wearing a frock of orchid mauve taffeta. At the annual meeting of the Carterton Tennis Club reference was made to the fact that .Mrs J. Steel, acting on medical advice, was resigning from the club. The president (Mr R. W. Roydhouse) stated that the club would suffer a very heavy loss in losing her services. She was a particularly good player, having represented the club and also the Wairarapa Association. It was decided to place on record the club’s appreciation of Mrs Steel’s services. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Helen, younger daughter of Mrs Lillie Eglinton, Lower.LHutt, and the late C. E. Eglinton, Featherston, to Bob, only son of Mr and Mrs F. N. R. Meadows. "Eastward Ho,” Lower Hutt.
