MARTINBOROUGH

SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL CONCERT. (“Times-Age” Special.) As is always the case when local talent is available, there was a large attendance at the concert staged by pupils of the school in the Town Hall last evening. Each item was a credit to the pupils and instructors alike and was heartily applauded by the audience. Action songs by the infants opened the programme, followed by an. innovation to Martinborough school concerts in the form of descriptive poems recited by combined classes. These were very pleasing to listen to. Folk dancing by girls from Form 1 and 2 dressed in picturesque old English costumes was warmly applauded. A group of songs was sung by Std 4 and Form 1, followed by a “short story without words” pleasingly acted by 4 boys. Two one-act plays were staged by High School pupils. The first, “The Playgoers,” a domestic comedy, was presented in a very acceptable manner. The players were: The Master (Bruce Kelly), The Mistress (Lena Jenkins), Parlourmaid (Margaret Macgregor), Cook (Frances Greenaway), The Useful Maid (Ruby Lumley), The Housemaid (Pauline Trounce), Kitchenmaid (Hazel Brasell), The Odd Man (Roy Munn). “The Grand Cham’s Diamond,” a comedy, was staged by Bonnie Boyd (Mrs Perkins), Ken Busch (Mr Perkins), Margery Mason (Polly Perkins), Ruth Small (Dark Stranger), and Albert (Peter Craig). At the conclusion of the play, Mr Brimble, on behalf of the School Committee, thanked all present for attending, and expressed appreciation of the work done by the teaching staff in producing such a fine concert.
