BASKETBALL TOURNEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Five Bush district women’s basketball teams competed for the Russell Cup trophy at the annual yankee tournament on Saturday night. Ten games were played, and again Rovers carried off the trophy by winning every game they played. Good, fast basketball was witnessed. Detailed results are as follow: Rovers 8, beat Athletic 9; Konini 11, beat Hukanui 5; Stars 4, beat Hukanui 2; Konini 9, beat Athletic 3; Athletic 4, beat Hukanui 3; Rovers 8, beat Stars 5; Stars 8, beat Konini 3; Rovers 18, beat Hukanui 2; Stars 8, beat Athletic 0; Rovers 12, beat Konini 7. The championship points are as follow: — Rovers (undefeated), 8 points; Konini 4; Athletic 2; Hukanui nil. Rongokokako Institute . At tlie monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute Miss Schultz presided over a fair attendance of members. It was decided to send a sum of money to the Makogai Leper Settlement Trustees. A bring and buy stall of plants was held and the Institute funds benefited considerably. Competitions for the month were won as follow:—Sugar Bag Apron, Mrs Payne 1, Miss A. Cooper 2, Miss P. Little 3. Best Gent’s Buttonhole: Miss M. Sigvertsen 1, Mrs B. Morriss 2, Miss E. Sigvertsen 3. The hostesses, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen and Miss E. Sigvertsen, served a dainty afternoon tea after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Obituary. The death occurred yesterday at “Sweetholm,” Nireaha, of Mrs Edward Drysdale, at the age of 56 years. Deceased was held in very high esteem for her many personal qualities and her death will be deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends. Power Board Meeting. At the monthly meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board held at Eketahuna there were present Messrs J. D. Wilson (chairman), C. T. Richardson, P. Davies, A. W. Bissett, J. G. Brechin, W. Simpson, J. B. Carruthers, E. W. Cheetham, W. Britland, T. Fouhy and L. Johnston. Mr J. D. Wilson reported that with the secretary-manager and the engineer he had attended a meeting of the Farmers’ Union at Pongaroa. The settlers were very keen to get reticulation out in Akitio County and now that all the guarantees were made the work could be started practically right away. The engineer stated that a start would be made on the Coonoor end on Monday next. The chairman thought that the power would be available for Pongaroa residents by Christmas. Mr Johnston reported that a section in Pongaroa and a small house were available for the board’s requirements. Political Meeting. Mr J. H. Irving, National candidate for the Masterton seat, will deliver a political address at Eketahuna tonight, commencing at 8.15 o’clock. Mr Irving will speak at Mauriceville prior to coming to Eketahuna. Miniature Rifle Club. The Nireaha Miniature Rifle Club has had a most successful season, thanks to' the keenness of the members and'the excellent management of the club. The trophies won during the past season will be presented at the annual ball on Thursday night.
