f RIFLE CLUB MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Featherston Rifle Club the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— Patron. Mr T. Benton; vice-patron, Mr H. Williams; president, Mr N. C. C. Shepherd; vice-presidents, Messrs F. S. Hood. R. W. Matthews, N. Matthews, T. Hardie, D. McTaggart, G. A. Vincent, Roy Donald, T. White, J. Moriarty, E. Perry, R. F. Watson. R. Brandon, W. J. McGill, B. Lane, and Mesdames Wakely and Sim; captain, Mr A. Cook; vicecaptain, Mr W. S. Benton; hon. secretary, Mr J. W. Johnson; handicapper, Mr L. G. Benton; selector, Mr C. Nix; auditor, Mr C. W. Ritchie; executive committee, Messrs *N. C. C. Shepherd, K. McKenzie, Roy Donald, L. G. Benton, C. J. Nix, W. Johnson and the secretary. It was resolved that the draw for places at the competitions take place on the range at 1.30 p.m. sharp, and that one arm sling be optional. It was decided that the official opening take place on. October 1. Special mention was made of the excellent service Mr W. Johnson had rendered as secretary since 1917. The trophies won during the year were presented as follows: —Matthews’ Shield, Mr C. J. Nix; Wakely Cup, Mr J. W. Johnson; Williams Cup, Mr K. McKenzie; Bidwill Cup, Mr B. Watson; .Yule Cup, Mr W. S. Benton; McTaggart Cup, Mr C. J. Nix; Shepherd Cup, Mr J. W. Johnson;; L. G. Benton trophy, Mr J. W. Johnson; R. Donald trophy, Mr W. S. Benton; W. Johnson trophy, Mr K. McKenzie. i . Miniature Rifles, The-Miniature Outdoor Rifle Club held a. practice on Sunday at Wharepapa (Palliser Bay), when about twenty took part, including several from Wellington and Featherston. The prizes won during last season were presented by Mr J. W. Johnson, president of the Wairarapa Association, as follows: —President’s Cup, Mr M. Hyland; Burling trophy, Mr A. Bain; J. W. Card trophy, Mr M. Turner. Kahutara Social Club. On Saturday night there was a good attendance at the Kahutara Social Club’s euchre tournament and dance. The winners of the euchre were: — Ladies: Mrs Simmonds, 1; Miss Simmonds, 2. Men: Mr Feast, 1; Mr Ruka, 2.. ' . ' Mr R. Herrick and • Miss B. Simmonds won the Monte Carlo dance. Basketball. The Masterton Technical School Old Girls played the Featherston High School-team on Saturday last when the local club won by 18 to 14. Hospital Inmate. Brian Halpin, the youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Halpin, who is an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, is re? ported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
