BOROUGH REPRESENTATION
WAIRARAPA ELECTRIC POWER BOARD. MOTION FOR AN INCREASE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, Mr. F. C. Daniell gave notice to move at the next meeting of the board: — “That steps be taken to provide one additional representative for Masterton borough on the Wairarapa Electric Power Board.” Explaining his reasons for his motion Mr Daniell pointed out that of the total population of the board’s area of 19,600, Masterton provided 9220 and the remainder 9380. There were nine members on the board, but only two came from the Masterton borough. There were 4610 constituents in Masterton and 1325 in the remainder of the area. Of the total number of consumers, 2972. were located in Masterton and 2666 outside. For 1937-38, the total revenue of the board, excluding Borthwick’s, amounted to £78,141: Masterton contributed £41,793 of that total, while the borough found £9,889 of the total sales revenue of £20,641 for last year. Showroom sales totalled £11.140, Masterton providing £6692 and the remainder of the district £4448. The financial statement included a small portion of the Masterton county and the figures were not separated in the reports of the board.
