MASTERTON HARRIER CLUB

FIVE MILE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL RACE FOR SHAW ROSE BOWL Tomorrow at the invitation of Mr and Mrs G. Shaw, the club will journey to Te Ore Ore to hold the five mile club championship over a two-lap course. In conjunction with this race will be held a sealed handicap to determine the winner of the coveted Shaw Rose Bowl for 1938, the four leaders for this being I. Shaw (32 points), G. Frederickson (31 points), and C. Ross and J. Haise (29 points, equal). With G. Gregory and R. Shaw, fighting out the club championship,* which carries the Wyeth Cup, presented each year by one of the club’s oldest supporters in Mr G. Wyeth, snr, of Lansdowne, the race should be one of the keenest fought events this year. The junior members of the club will hold their club championship, over a course of 21 miles for a silver cup presented by two keen supporters of the club, over a number of years—Mr and Mrs J. Cairns. Also in conjunction with this there will be a sealed handicap for points in the second race for a cup presented by an anonymous donor. In the first race held last week, K. Cairns gained 5 points, S. Liddle, 3 points, and P. O’Brien, 1 point. Cars for both senidP and juniors will leave the Park Gates (next to the baths), at 2 o’clock sharp. Members are requested to be on time.
