About 260 people were present at the Newman Hall last night when Mr and Mrs W. Hooper, of Newman, tendered a party to their daughter. Miss Daphne Hooper, to celebrate her. 21st birthday. The function was a most enjoyable and successful one. Miss Hooper was presented with a “key to the house” by her father, amid rounds of applause. Congratulatory speeches were made by Messrs W. Dowsett and T. Edge and cheers were given for Miss Hooper. During the evening Miss Hooper's engagement to Mr Murray Nilsson, son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Nilsson, of Eketahuna, was announced. The efforts made to see that the guests enjoyed themselves were greatly appreciated by the large attendance.
