GREYTOWN

DRAMATIC CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Amateur Dramatic Club staged a very successful three-act play in the Town Hall, Greytown, last night. The play was called “Ariadne, or Business First.” Those taking part were: Miss C. Keddell (producer), Misses M. Eccles, M. Wood, M. Webster, Messrs G. F. Eagar, G. R. Jury and R. ”H. Page. At the interval, the Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, thanked the Dramatic Club for their splendid effort. The proceeds are to be donated to the Greytown Swimming Club. The musical part of the programme was supplied by Te Tau s Orchestra. Services Recognised. At the fortnightly meeting of the Odd Fellows’ Lodge last night occasion was taken to bid farewell 'to P.G. Bro. W. Gates, who is shortly leaving the district. In appreciation of his services over a long period of years he was presented with a Past Grand s Collar, suitably inscribed. Bro. Gates was initiated into the Greytown Lodge in 1898 and during practically the whole of the period of his membership he has served in office. He was elected a trustee in 1909 and has served in that capacity ever since. The presentation was made by the Noble Grand, Bro. W. Grigg. Mr Thompson's Campaign. . On Tuesday Mr J. F. Thompson addressed a large meeting at-Parkvale which was presided over by Mr G. Hart. Several questions were asked and answered by Mr Thompson. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker, moved by Mr Robinson. Mr T. Orr has been appointed honorary, secretary to Mr J. F. Thompson by the.Wairarapa National Party executive. Personal. The Rev. G. Kynock Muir, formerly Vicar of St. Luke’s Church, Grey town, and rector of New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, has been appointed to the charge of St. Wessog’s Episcopal Church, Auchterarder. Court Cases. At the sitting of the S.M. Court yes- ■ terday judgment was given by default for plaintiff in the following cases:— S. A. Hebley v. Jack Brooks, claim £ll 6s lid, costs £2 17s; H. Morgan v. F. Geary, costs only £1 Is. Albert Edward Peterson was convicted pf theft and placed on probation for two years and is to abstain from liquor during that period. Heleva Corkery, wife of the licensee of the Foresters Arms Hotel, was fined £1 with 10s costs for unlawfully supplying liquor after hours. The licensee, Gerald .-Corkery, was fined £3 with costs 10s for selling liquor after hours. Robert Briggs and Leopold Roper were each fined £1 with 10s costs for being unlawfully on licensed premises after hours. William Fulford and John Robert Strickland were each fined 10s with costs for failing to carry warrants of fitness in their motor cars. For similar offences Robert H. Carter and William Summers were fined £1 and costs 10s. B. J. Rayner was fined £1 with costs Ils for driving a motor car while not having a driver’s licence. Patrick McEvedy Was fined £2 with 10s costs for speeding through Greytown. Felix Campbell on a similar charge was fined £5 with costs 13s. Traffic Inspector Nicolson stated that this was defendant’s third conviction for a similar offence within three months.
