A small boy, his head completely enveloped in a saucepan, was led on to a tramcar by his mother. Various passengers expressed sympathy with the lad, whereupon the mother announced, with a certain amount of pride—“ Just takin’ ’im to ’orspital.” “How did ’e come to git that thing on ’is ’ead?” asked the conductor. “Playin’ at soldiers. ’E wanted an ’elmet, so ’e took the sorcepan,” announced his mother. “That a bad job for ’im.” “Yus,” agreed the mother, “but it’ll be be a worse job for me. ’ls father’s dinner’s in it.”
