FEATHERSTON

BOWLING CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) A committee meeting was held on Monday night, when Messrs J. W. Card, F. W. Smith and H. Rolls were appointed as delegates to the Centre, and Messrs. L. James, B. Fuge and H. Rolls as greenkeepers. The opening of the season was fixed for Saturday, October 1. A Sherry Party. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Bloxam held a six o’clock Sherry on Monday night when their friends took the opportunity to fardwell Mr John Bloxam. The health of the guest was proposed by Mr. J. W. Card. Dr. Sharp proposed. the toast of Mr. and Mrs. Bloxam. Mr. Bloxam responded on behalf of Mrs. Bloxam and himself. Mr John Bloxam left yesterday afternoon for Auckland, from whence he will sail in the Rangitane for England to join up with the Royal Air Force. Horticultural Society. The Featherston Horticultural Society held a meeting in the Parish Hall on Monday night, when Mr. Arch Clark occupied the chair, in the unavoidable absence of Mrs. Algar Williams. There were also present: Mesdames McKenzie, Tutbury, A. Clark, Carter, Wakely, Brophy, Ritchie, Luke, Lowell, Smith, Rea, Misses Card, Esma Card, Z. Tutbury; Messrs. Carter, H. Clark and Chas. Rea. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Bloxam, Charles, Lawson, G. Yule; Misses McTaggart and Viles; Messrs G. Yule, Kibblewhite and the Rev. R. S. Keenan. The date of the show was fixed for Tuesday, November 17. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Thos. Hardie for the gift of a silver cup to be won outright in the professional cut flowers class. It was reported that the membership had increased by 20, the total membership now being 50. National Party. A meeting of the National Party was held in Anzac Hall on Monday night, when members reported increased support and looked forward with every confidence to the result of the poll. It was stated that arrangements for election day were well in hand.
