BOWLING
MASTERTON CLUB OPENING DAY FIXED (Notes by “The Bowler”) The past few days of fine weather, will remind bowlers that to them, winter is past, and they will soon be taking part in the grand old game of bowls. I have had several opportunities oi inspecting the Masterton Club’s greens, and considering the unfavourable weather we have had during, the past few weeks, the greens look well, and the No. 2 green should be in good order for the opening day. The committee of the club have decided to hold the official opening on Saturday, October 8, but the committee advised that in view of the drastic treatment the greens were subject to last season, consequent on the dry weather, members will not be able to indulge in play, during the week following the official opening. It has been customary, for many years past, for the club to hold a Labour week-end tournament, and this will again be adhered to this season. This tournament has oeen most successful in past years, and I am sure that all bowlers will enjoy themselves on next Labour Day. The committee of the Masterton Club accepted a kind invitation from the Soldiers’ Club to a social evening on Wednesday evening next. The function will be held at the Soldiers Club, and will comprise billiards, snooker and cards, and I know that the members of the Masterton Bowling Club, will turn up in large numbers to show their appreciation of the kindness of the Soldiers’ Club members. The Masterton Club have appointed a special committee to attend to, and carry out, the social activities m connection with the club, and it is intended to hold a number of social evenings, during the year. It has been customary, on the opening day of the season, for each member to do something on that day to help that function, and I trust,' they will again render assistance by bringing along a plate of cakes, etc.
