A LITTLE BOOK OF VERSE A copy of “Lamps on the Road,” a little book of verse by Jennie McGregor has been received from the publishers, Messrs Arthur H. Stockwell Ltd., London. Many people no doubt would call these poems old-fash-ioned, but they have their own charm of pleasant and often devotional thought, and of easy-running melody. There is no straining after effect, and the appeal of the authoress at all times is to time-honoured standards of truth and beauty. In one of her poems “The Call of Maoriland,” she pays tribute in ringing verse to this country s natuial charms. “Lamps on the Road has its own claims to attention.
