ELECTION DAY
POLLING ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 15 ANNOUNCEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER BROADCAST OF POLITICAL SPEECHES (Ey Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that polling day for the general election had been fixed for Saturday, October 15, was made by the Rt Hon M. J. Savage (Prime Minister), in the House of Representatives this morning. Mr Savage also stated that the Maori election would be held on Friday, October 14. Mr Savage said that writs for the election would be issued on September 20, and the rolls would close on September 22. The Government would be allowed six broadcast election speeches, the Opposition four, and the Independents two. Only present members of Parliament would be allowed to speak over the air. The first broadcast address would be that of the Prime Minister himself in the Wellington Town Hall, on September 22. This would be followed by a broadcast by an Opposition speaker on September 23, and another by an Independent on September 24. The broadcasts would be made through .the four national stations.
