PLUNKET SOCIETY
MEETING IN MASTERTON. ACTIVITIES FOR MONTH. The Masterton branch of the Plunket Society met yesterday afternoon in the Plunket Rooms. There were present, Mesdames J. Caselberg (chair), T. F. Watson, R. C./ Drummond, S. L. P. Free, J. C. Broad, R. F. R. Beetham, J. V. Gordon, P. Nathan, D. Donald, Carmine, H. H. Daniell, T. Jordan, T. W. Wardell, A. F. Stewart, J. O’Connor, W. A. Michael. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames E. G. Eton, J. James, A. H. Falloon, N. Irwin, A. Ericson, A. Donald (Kopuaranga), Sortain Smith and Hugh Morrison. The president welcomed the three new members of the committee and expressed the hope that another useful year of work lay before the branch. Regret was expressed at the poor attendance of young mothers with infants at the annual meeting. The committee would like to stress the point that mothers would gain much help and advice from the addresses given by qualified speakers. A letter of apology for absence at the annual meeting was received from Mr J. Robertson, M.P., who enclosed a subscription of one guinea. A letter was received from the Dominion Secretary advising the branch that the date of the annual general conference of the Society had been fixed for November 16 and 17. In the event of the general election taking place that week the conference would meet on November 23 and 24.
Quarterly reports from the Karitane Hospital were received and read. A circular was received from the Dominion Secretary with reference to the branches assisting to finance an exhibit by the Society at the Centennial Exhibition which would be worthy of the Society’s great work. / The following members were elected to the executive committee for the ensuing year:—The president, secretary and treasurer, and Mesdames J. M. Coradine, T. F. Watson, H. H. Daniell and A. F. Stewart. Accounts amounting to £44 15s 6d were passed for payment. The nurse’s report was as follows:— Masterton: Visits to office, adults, 332; babies, 305; older children, 59; telephone calls, 117; total, 813. Visits to homes, new cases, 47; old cases, 206; total, 253. New cases for the month, town, 19; country, 3; total, 22. Visits to outstations: Hastwell, Mangamahoe, Kopuaranga, Mauriceville East and West, and Mount Bruce, two visits each; Tinui, Annedale, and Blairlogie, one visit each; Whareama and Langdale, two visits each; Homewood, one visit; total for the month, 20. Pre-natal section, 13 visits. Thanks were accorded to Mesdames W. L. Cameron. C. A. Cameron. C. H. Vallance and White and Miss Vincent for the donation of infants’ garments.
