FEATHERSTON
WRESTLING CONTESTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) In the wrestling contests between Featherston and Petone the latter team secured 5 wins and Featherston 4 with three bouts drawn. The results were as follow, Featherston competitors being mentioned first in each instance: — Cross lost to Henderson by one fall; Leighton lost to McDonald by one fall; Carlyon beat Monastra by one fall; Wenden drew with Hill; Neil drew with Craig; Matthews won by two falls from Barber; Jensen drew with Ruby; Dryden beat Williams; Lowe lost to Park by one fall; Reid beat McDonald; Simmonds lost to Chevin by one fall;. Benton lost to Wales by one fall. School Closed. As the Waiorongomai School . has been closed down temporarily, the 24 pupils are now conveyed daily to the Featherston School. Card Tournament. The Fire Brigade’s weekly card tournament was held in the Anzac Hall on Tuesday. As there were other functions on the attendance was not so good as usual. The winners were: — Ladies: Mrs Fairbrother, 1; Miss Nix, 2. Men: Miss Viles, 1; Mr L. A. Crawford, 2. Golf Club Meeting. A committee meeting of the Featherston Golf Club was held on Monday evening. The arrangements made to play the return match with Tui Glen were confirmed. It was decided that the closing day be October 8 and that the usual mixed foursome be played. The final round for the shield and Stableford competition will be held on October 1. Arrangements were made for the annual tournament to be held on Labour Day weekend, October 22, 23 and 24.
