FEATHERSTON

CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The card tournament and dance held at South Featherston on Thursday night was well attended. The prize winners were:—Ladies: Mrs Rasmussen Senr., 1; Mrs R. Jepson, 2. Men: Mr Frank Burt, 1; Mr Perry, 2. Monte Carlo, Mr M. and Miss Fuge and Mr A. Wilton and Miss M. Tait. Personal Items. Miss Gwenda Hubbard, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. Hubbard, Pihautea, is an inmate of the Masterton Hospital. Mr George Scott, who was killed in a motor accident at Petone on Thursday, was a son of Mr and Mrs J. M. Scott, one of the very early settlers of Pihautea. Mr Scott, who was 19 years of age, attended the Kahutara and Masterton schools. Mrs Frank Jennings (Papawai) is an aunt of the deceased. His father resides in Taihape. Mrs Scott died some years ago. Misses Z. and B. Aslin, Wellington, are visiting their father, Mr R. M. Aslin, Pihautea. Mrs L. McKenna, who has been visiting at Pahiatua, has returned home. Mrs McKenna was a delegate for the Women's Institute meeting. School Association. A Home and School Association meeting was held in the South Featherston Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Gordon Burt was in the chair. A motor car competition was won by Mrs R. Foss. A demonstration in wood pulp flowers was given by Miss L. Shaw, of Masterton, and Mrs Keir (Masterton) gave a demonstration on paper pulp work. Tea was provided by tea hostesses, Mesdames R. Foss, H. Graham and G. Burt.
