GOLF COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The final round of the children’s competition for the McGregor Cup was played on Thursday last. This competition is played in two series during the term holidays and the net aggregate determines the winner. There are also prizes for the boy and girl who win each series, and in the final games the successful players were Joan McGregor and Frank Cotter, the latter also winning the McGregor Cup for the first time. Owing to adverse weather conditions all championship and handicap cup matches were postponed over the weekend. It has been decided that the championship matches must be played by September 18. Those desirous of playing before that date must make their own arrangements. On Saturday last a mixed foursomes was played for the Silver Buttons, Mrs Schofield and S. Gray returning the best card. E. Nitz defeated M. Paku in a Nimmo Cup match, and he will meet P. Kummer in a similar challenge this week. Annual Ball. All arrangements are well in hand for the annual golf ball scheduled for next Saturday night. This function has always proved the most popular event of the season and this year’s ball promises to eclipse all previous efforts. A feature of the function will be the supper arrangements which are in the hands of a capable ladies’ committee. The music will be supplied by Barnes’s Rhythm Boys, and the floor will be in first-class order.
