POLLED HEREFORD BULL
PURCHASE BY WAIRARAPA BREEDER. RECORD PRICE PAID. An interesting event in connection with the development of overseas trade occurred during recent weeks. New Zealand’s breeders of beef cattle are concentrating on importing sires from overseas countries in an endeavour to improve the standard of the Dominion’s beef cattle herds and, last week, two more outstanding types of the Polled Hereford breed were imported to the Dominion from the original home of this breed, the United States. One of the bulls, a three and a half-year-old sire, is claimed to be the best representative of his breed who could be secured in North America. The price paid for this bull, Chaling Domino, was a record one. He is a magnificent representative of the modern type of early maturing beef animal, and is stated to have been selected not only because of his remarkable high showring standard but for the reason that his progeny are quite outstanding, marking him as a sire of great merit. Chaling Domino was imported for the herd of Mr J. R. Matthews, Waiorongomai, Featherston, and he should add further laurels to the record of this well-known stud. The selection and shipment here was arranged by Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd.
