SALESMAN FOUND GUILTY OF FRAUD. INVENTED HARD LUCK STORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Thomas Joseph Levett, a salesman, aged 45, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to being deemed a rogue and vagabond in that, by fraudulently representing that his wife and family were in hospital, he imposed upon a person with a view to obtaining money. He also admitted two breaches of probation. It was stated that he told his employer that his wife and family were in hospital and that he was in urgent need of 30s, which his employer gave him. Accused said drink was his only trouble and he was prepared to take out a prohibition order and not handle any money. He was given sentences of three months’ hard labour on each of three charges, two of them concurrent.
