HERR E. C. RAMM
GERMAN CONSUL-GENERAL. EXPERIENCE IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Herr Ernst C. Ramm, who arrived today by the Wanganella to take up his duties as Consul-General for Germany, made the journey out alone, but will be joined soon, he hopes, by his wife and child. He said in an interview that he had spent fifteen years in the diplomatic service, comprising several years in Japan, Russia and Spain. When asked his opinion as to the situation in these countries, he said that although it was only a few years since he had been there, subsequent events had probably made his opinions out of date. He was in Tokio from 1926 to 1928, in Moscow in 1929 and in Madrid in 1929 to 1932. For the last six years he has worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin. He was especially glad to be in Berlin in 1936 to see the Olympic Games and one of his best memories was seeing the New Zealand long-distance champion, Lovelock, whose performance and excellent style were much admired by the German public. Herr Ramm left Germany on July 12 and went to London, where he was well received by the High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan. Asked concerning trade relations, he said he was charged to cultivate the good relations already existing and to do his best towards the promotion of an even better understanding between New Zealand and Germany. The present agreements were working out most satisfactorily, but further than that he could make no statement.
