“DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN”

BOY CONVERTS EIGHT CARS WITHIN SIX DAYS. GIVEN CHANCE IN CHILDREN’S COURT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The unlawful conversion of eight cars within six days was admitted by a fourteen;year’-old boy in the Children’s Court this morning. The case was adjourned until March, 1939, the Magistrate, Mr Reid, remarking that he did so in order to give the boy a chance to show that he could keep out of trouble. The boy was ordered to pay £3O for damage done to two of the cars.

The police said the boy had a large number of keys which fitted cars that had been converted at various times. Sometimes the boy took his friends for joy rides, saying that the cars belonged to various relatives. “It is difficult to explain this lapse,” said counsel. “It occurred about a Week after his examinations concluded, and it may possibly have been the result of overstudy.”
