The United States national championships were continued today. In the men’s doubles J. D. Budge and C. G. Mako (U.S.A.) defeated Sabin and Cooke, 4/6. 9/7, 6/3; Boboitt and Guernsey defeated Y. Puncec and Kukuljevic (Yugoslavia), 6/2, 10/8, 8/6; Allison and Van Ryn defeated Hughes and Hare, 3/6, 6/3, 14/12, 6/1; Riggs and Grant defeated Farrin and Howard, 6/4, 6/4, 6/4; Mullery and Toley defeated Gilbert-Hunt and Sutter, 7/5, 11/9, 5/7, 0/6, 6/2; Quist and Bromwich (Australia) defeated Surface and McNeill, 6/8, 7/5, 6/3, 6/0. The Australians played in a rather erratic manner, flashing their best form only occasionally, but that was sufficient to dispose handily of the Americans who, while providing the best opposition the Australians have met so far were badly outclassed. Women’s doubles: Misses Wynne and Coyne (Australia) defeated Misses Harrison and Lee, 6/0, 6/2; Mrs Hopman (Australia) and Miss Stevenson defeated Misses Winslow and Mcßae (seeded Americans), 6/3, 6/4. Others entering the quarter-finals are Miss Marble and Mrs Fabyan (U.S: A.), Mesdames Andrus and Henrotin, Miss K. Stammers and Miss C. E. Lumb, Misses Bundy and Workman, Mme Mathieu and Mlle Jedrzejowska, Misses Wolfenden and Canning.
