THE DIVAN BED

MAKES ROOM LOOK LARGER The divap bed makes the small bedroom look larger, and yet is not a jot less comfortable than any other type of bed. It is made with straight legs, low on the ground, and the spring mattress of an ordinary bed can serve for the foundation. On this is placed one of the newer innfir spring mattresses which is properly upholstered and the whole is covered by a frill falling to the floor, or else a loose cover is made to fit. Fitting- cushions serve the purpose of a pillow at night, and two or three bright-coloured loose ones add to the attraction of a couch in the day time.

Such divans will fit neatly into any corner of the room, and it is wise to choose a position where the light will fall properly on a book when the occupant is resting. Some. have increased the comfort of the couch by day by the addition of a narrow padded back rest which is raised on two plain arms, while others have built a shelf a foot above the divan at the side and end against the wall. This effectively transforms the stereotyped bedroom, and allows it to be used as a sitting-room by day —essentially suited to the demands of grown-up children who want space of their own to store books, do their homework, pursue some hobby, or entertain a friend on odd occasions.
