If made in a large quantity and kept in a bottle or jar it is nice to 'add 1 bay leaf 1 clove or garlic Quick Coffee Cake With Apples Sift together 2 cups sifted flour , 2 teaspoons baking powder t teaspoon salt J cup sugar. Blend with 6 tablespoons shortening. Mix together 1 egg, well beaten, J cup milk, and add to other mixture. Turn into greased 9-inch layer pan, spreading dough evenly. Brush

top with 1J tablespoons melted butter. Peel, core, and cut into slices 5 apples. Lay in rows on buttered dough, pressing each firmly into place. Mix together 4 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon flour J teaspoon cinnamon, sprinkle over apples. Bake in hot oven (400 deg F) 25 to 30 minutes. Cut into squares and serve hot as a dessert, with whipped cream, or serve it for breakfast.

Fudge Mix together 2 cups sugar 4. tablespoons cocoa 2 tablespoons corn sirup J cup evaporated milk. Stir until sugar is dissolved and wash down sugar from sides of saucepan with a pastry brush dipped in cold water. That combined with the evaporated milk (although fresh milk may be used as well) makes the fudge unusually smooth and creamy.
