DRIVE ON HANKOW
JAPANESE LAUNCH MAJOR OFFENSIVE INITIAL PROGRESS CLAIMED CHINESE POSITIONS BOMBED HANKOW, August 21. The Japanese have launched a major offensive at Lake Poyang. Planes fiercely bombarded the Chinese positions. The Japanese, covered by smoke-screens, landed at Ruchang on the east bank of the lake 30 miles south of Huchow. The Japanese claim to have captured Singtze, a strategic point beside the lake.
