Opinion of a Trade.
“If I had a son and had a grudge against him it is to this trade that I would put him,” said a witness, ’ a stonemason by occupation, in giving evidence in the stonemasons’ dispute heard in the Arbitration Court at Auckland. “That is pretty rough on a skilled trade,” commented Mr Justice O’Regan. Owing to stone dust and the noise and vibration of machinery, witness said it was a most unhealthy occupation. Earthquake Echo. A resident of Napier, who had gone to England to visit relatives just before the earthquake of 1931, left his personal property and belongings in the charge of a friend living in the business area. When the grants were being made by the Earthquake Relief Committee for the benefit of people living in the business area who had lost personal goods, a claim was lodged on behalf of the absent man, and an amount of £lO was granted as part of the payment of his return fare to New Zealand. Advice was received this week that the person concerned, who has been living in England ever since, desires to return to New Zealand, and arrangements are being made for the six-year-old grant to be utilised as part payment of his fare.
