NEW ZEALAND POTATOES
PROPOSED ADMISSION TO AUSTRALIA WARM PROTESTS FROM WESTERN GROWERS PERTH, August 17. In consequence of the report that the Federal Ministry contemplates lifting the embargo temporarily on New Zealand potatoes, Western Australia Senators have jointly telegraphed to the Prime Minister protesting against, such action. • They point out that it would be grossly unfair to penalise Western Australian potato-growers at a time when Western Australia, which had an adverse trade balance with the eastern States, might reasonably hope for a greater measure of reciprocity. The Senators also expressed the opinion that the citrus-growers in the eastern States were apparently coercing the Federal Government into an arrangement with New Zealand which had recently placed restrictions on Australian trade.
