SITUATION OF EXTREME GRAVITY
SUDETENS NOT WILLING TO CONCEDE MUCH LORD RUNCIMAN RECEIVED BY PRESIDENT (Recd This Day, 12.10 p.m.) PRAGUE, August 16. Viscount ..Runciman ..conferred with representatives of the Sudeten Party, who, it is understood, do not intend to slam the door, though they are not willing to concede much. The President (Dr Benes) later received Lord Runciman, and discussed the general situation. UNEXPECTED INTERVIEW (Recd This Day, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, August 16. The “Daily Telegraph’s Prague correspondent ■ says the interview of the President (Dr Benes) with Lord Runciman was unexpected. It was arranged at the President’s own request, in view of the importance'of tomorrow’s meeting between Dr Hodza, and. the Henlein Party, who are expected to reject the Government’s proposals, thus creating a situation of extreme gravity.
