POSITION OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. LOCAL BODY CONTRIBUTION. Referring to a proposal by county councils to approach the Governrhent in regard to the system of hospital taxation, the managing-secretary, Mr Norman Lee, stated at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board that the position for the year ending March 31, 1939, was as follows: Total expenditure: Maintenance, £58,978, 87 per cent; capital, £8869, 13 per cent. Total revenue: Cash in hand and rents, £2437, 3.5 per cent; patients’ payments, £11,925, 17.6 per cent; local body levies, £2B, 15.8; counties, £22,941, 33.8 per cent; boroughs, £5217, 7.7 per cent. The percentage proportion the respective local body levies bore to the total local body levies was as follows, the percentage proportion the levies bore to the total revenue being shown in parentheses:— Counties. —Featherston, 19.6 (8.1); Masterton, 18.1 (7.5); Wairarapa South, 12.7 (5.3); Pahiatua, 9.8 (4.1); Eketahuna, 7.7 (3.2); Akitio, 6.3 (2.6); Castlepoint, 4.7 (1.9); Mauriceville, 2.6 (1.1) — 81.5 (33.8). Boroughs.—Masterton, 11.4 (4.7); Carterton, 2.2 (0.9); Grey town, 0.9 (0.4); Pahiatua, 1.6 (0.7); Eketahuna, 0.6 (0.3); Martinborough, 1.0 ((0.4); Featherston, 0.8 (0.3)—18.5 (7.7); other revenue, 0 (1>8.5).
