RETIRING GENERALS
UNDER NEW CONDITIONS IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) (Recd This Day, 10.25 a.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 16. The London “Gazette” contains retirements under the new terms and conditions of officers’ service, announced in July by the Secretary of State for War, Mr L. Hore-Belisha, of thirteen general officers. They include General Sir George Darell Jeffreys, who was General Officer and Com-mander-in-Chief of the Southern Command in India from 1932 to 1936; General Sir Harry Knox, General Sir Hugh Jamieson Elies. who was the military member of the Garter Mission to Japan in 1929; General Walter Pittalor, who has been General Officer and Commander-in-Chief of the Western Command in India since 1936 and General Sir Reginald Hildyard, who served in India at various dates and has been Governor of Bermuda since 1936.
