LADIES’ GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP (“Times-Age” Special). The qualifying round was played for the ladies’ championship on Saturday and the order of qualifying was:—Senior division —Miss Nix, Mrs Thompspn, Mrs Horner, Mrs Bunny, Mrs Balfour, Miss E. Gregor, Mrs Maddison. Junior Division. —Mrs Jury, Mrs R. Ingley, Miss M. Collier, Miss B. Haigh, Miss N. Bouzaid, Miss I. Collie, Mrs G. Ingley, Miss B. Gregor. In the first round Miss Nix has a bye. The draw is Mrs Thompson v Mrs .Maddison, ■ Mrs Horner v Miss E. Gregor, Mrs Bunny v Mrs Balfour, Mrs Jury v Miss B. Gregor, Mrs R. Ingley v Mrs G. Ingley, Miss M. Collier v Miss I. Collier and Miss B. Haigh v Miss N. Bouzaid.

The first round for the Captain trophy' was played on Saturday, with the following results:—B. Kiernan beat Ray Ingley, H. G. Carter beat H. Keltic, T. R. Ingley beat A. G. Peterson, C Stunell beat T. Gold, J. C. Feast beat H. Bull.

The first round of the intermediate championship resulted: —T. Gold beat A. G. Rhodes, J. W. Tate beat B. Haigh, N. McLeod beat H. G. Carter, C. Stunnell a bye.

First rourid junior championship — Ray Ingley beat H. Keltie, A. Webster beat A. G. Peterson, Dr Oakey beat L. Curtis, A. Carter beat A. Haigh.

The Waiwetu Golf Club will pay a visit to Greytown next Sunday. .

OBITUARY The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Jack Matthews, a native of Papawai. He was 52 years of age, .served with the Maori Pioneer Battalion during the Great War. He is survived by two sons and one daughter. His wife predeceased him some years ago. The funeral took place at Papawai’ today. The casket was covered with the Union Jack, and his comrades deposited poppies in the grave in remembrance of their comrade. TABLE TENNIS The badge winners for the week at the Methodist Club were Mr A. Webster and Miss J. Rice. MEASLES EPIDEMIC The measles epedemic is now on the wane, and the attendance at the school is fast returning to normal. A number of adult residents are suffering from measles. R.S.A. PARTY The Greytown Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association will hold a party on Wednesday night. The wives, children and lady friends are to be the guests of the diggers at the function. AHIKOUKA STOP BANK The contractor, Mr F. Dennes, is making good progress with the new stop bank at Ahikouka. A modern tractor scoop is being used with great success. The work is being pushed ahead; two shifts working from daylight till dark.
