ARMISTICE IN SPAIN
SUGGESTED BY M. BLUM < WITHDRAWAL OF FOREIGNERS. GUARANTEE OF DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. PARIS, Aug. 12. M. Leon Blum, former French Popular Front Premier, in an article in the “Populaire,” suggests an armistice in Spain for the withdrawal of foreigners. He declares that the people should be given a sovereign choice of political regime under which they desire to live by elections held under the guarantee of mediatory Powers. This would mean the deliverance of Spain from foreign aggression. REBEL ADVANCE GREAT GAIN OF TERRITORY CLAIMED. BURGOS, Aug. 12. The rebels claim to have captured 700 square miles of territory in SouthWest Spain on the Estremadura front, inflicting 1000 casualties. The ' Republicans are tenaciously holding the strategic bridgeheads on the Ebro and Segre Rivers, in West Catalonia.
