PERSONAL ITEMS

Mrs J. Simpson, of Essex Street, Masterton, is visiting Johnsonville. Mrs W. Mitchell, of Villa Street, Masterton, is on a visit to Wellington. Mrs K. McLaren, who has been the guest of Mrs Peter McLaren, returned to Hinakura today. Miss A. M. Brown, or Essex Street, has returned to Masterton from a holiday spent in the South Island. Mrs W. Oakenful, a former resident who has been staying in Masterton for some time, has left on a visit to friends in the Carterton district. Miss Helena J. Clarke will arrive in New Zealand in September to take up the position of head mistress of the Craighead Diocesan School for Girls at Timaru. Miss Clarke is a master of arts and holds the English higher diploma of education. She comes from the staff of St James School, West Malvern, which is one of the best girls’ schools in England. A kitchen tea for Miss Nancy Golder who is to be married shortly, was given by Miss Phyllis Madsen at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs F. Madsen, Perry Street, Masterton, on Wednesday evening. A most enjoyable time was spent, a splendid programme of musical items and competitions Having been arranged. The two competitions were won by Miss E. Kitchener. A large number of valuable presents were received by tjie bride-elect. A dainty supper was provided, and a most successful function brought to an end with the offering to Miss:. Golder of hearty good wishes for her future happiness and prosperity.

CARTERTON

Miss Laura Moody, of Notting Hill, Waihakeke, who is at present a patient at the Greytown Hospital, is progressing favourably. Miss Dora Moncrieff, who is on the staff of a Wellington mercantile firm, is spending a holiday in Carterton, and is' staying with her mother, Mrs C. A. Moncrieff, Victoria Street.
