OBITUARY

MRS M. A. SARGENT. The death took place at Masterton this morning of Mrs M. A. Sargent, mother of Mrs M. Creighton. The late Mrs Sargent was an old resident of Hawke’s Bay, having landed at Napier 74 years ago. She had lived at Matamau. Hawke’s Bay, for 51 years until her health began to fail, when she went to live at Napier with her youngest son, Mr J. Swiggs. Since December last she has been a resident of Masterton. staying with her daughter, Mrs M. Creighton in High Street. The late Mrs Sargent was the only daughter of the late Sergeant Fitzpatrick, of the 99th regiment who fought in the Waikato War. and who also was attached to the Hawke’s Bay military forces under Colonel Fraser and later under Captain Biggs, at Waipopo. She leaves a husband, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Messrs William C. Swiggs (Tataramoa) and J. Swiggs (Napier). There are also eight grand-children and six great grandchildren.
