“THE CINGALEE”
The Masterton Amateur Theatrical • Society set out with this season’s production to present an entirely new cast of principal characters. There is only one principal, Mr C. E. Rogers, who plays the part of “Boobamba,” who has had a leading part previously. All the others are new to Masterton audiences, and it is said by those in charge that they are all doing remarkably well. The opera lends itself to pretty ensemble scenes and good chorus work. Particular attention is being given by the producer, Mrs Edna Paterson, and the musical director, Mr R. J. Young, so that these scenes and music will please a critical audience. Lighting and stage effects, together with the colourful costumes of Ceylonese and English people, will present some charming scenes. Tonight the orchestra and the whole company will rehearse together in the Opera House. The plan for the season opened this morning at the Arts and Crafts when there was a keen demand for seats.
