ADDINGTON MARKET

SHARP 'ADVANCE RECORDED. ENTRIES UNUSUALLY SMALL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 3. The entries at today’s national fat stock market were unusually small for a double sale, and as a result there was the sharpest advance of the year for both fat cattle and fat sheep. Eighteen spring lambs came forward and sold at about Is 2d a lb. Store sheep consisted of a skeleton entry of old ewes, which sold at low prices. Less than 5000 fat sheep were penned, the quality being excellent and the sale showed a jump from the outset of from 4s to 6s a head for all quality sheep. Medium ewes, which slumped badly last week, and light ewes and wethers, recovered last week’s drop of 3s, but in the final stages of the sale there was a general easing of Is to Is 6d a head. For best class show and show wethers from Taihape sold at up to 525; good prime heavy wethers 32s 6d to 40s, inferior down to 21s; best ewes made from 23s to 275, tops to 355, medium prime 18s to 21s, light down to Ils. Fat cattle: There was a fine display of beef in the 570 head penned, and an improvement of from 40s to 45s a head was recorded on last week’s rates, and a good deal of the best beef made close on this price a 1001 b, although some of the show cattle sold at about £3 a 1001 b. This price was paid for advertising purposes and was beyond commercial value' Best show bullocks made from £25 to £3O; best show steers £l9 to £24; good prime bullocks £l7 to £2O 10s, prime £l4 to £l6 10s, light down to £10; show heifers,to £2O 10s, good prime £ll 10s to £l4 2s 6d, medium £9 to £lO 10s, light down to £7; show cows to £l5 17s 6d, good £9 to £ll 10s, light down to £6. Extra good runners made to £9 13s 6d, heavy runners £6 to £7 13s 6d; good vealers £4 11s to £7 13s 6d; calves 8s to 38s. Fat pigs: This was the best sale of the season for porkers, which made from 43s 6d to £3 9s 6d, and an average price a lb of 8d to 9d; baconers £3 10s 6d to £5 12s 6d, average 7d to 7Jd a lb; show choppers £6 16s to £lO ss, others £3 to £4 18s 6d. Store pigs met a much better sale, particularly for weaners, which made from Ils to 18s; slips 19s to 21s; stores 22s to 355; sows in pig £3 10s to £6 ss. JOHNSONVILLE PRICES LATE RATES MAINTAINED.
