Speaking on his visit to Australia, from which he returned to day, Mr Will Appleton, a well-known Wellington citizen, gave particulars in regard to housing in Australia. He said that last year private buildings were erected in~Sydney and suburbs to a value of over £13,000,000. an increase of 30 per cent over the previous 12 months. Costs generally were 33 and 1-3 per cent below costs in Wellington. In Melbourne permits for the year ended June 30 were for over £8,000,000 of which over 60 per cent was domestic.
