MR D. C. E. WEBSTER TAKES . UP DUTIES PRESENTATION IN DUNEDIN Mr D. C. E. Webster, late of Dunedin, who was recently appointed Registrar of. the Supreme Court and Clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton arrived yesterday, and has taken up his new duties, in succession to Mr A. H. Cutler, who has retired on superannuation. Mr Webster A. H. Gibson, of Wellington, has been acting Registrar and Clerk pending Mr Webster’s arrival. A pleasant function took place in the Supreme Court office, Dunedin, on Friday afternoon, when the staffs of the Supreme and Magistrate’s Courts, the Judge’s Associate, and the secretary of the Law Society met to farewell Mr Webster. Conveying the good wishes of those present, the Registrar Mr J. M. Adam, referred to the outstanding qualities of Mr Webster and the good feeling existing between him and everyone in the building. He wished Mr Webster good luck in his new position and on behalf of those present presented him with a crystal water service. In reply Mr Webster thanked all for their expressions of goodwill, and stated he would always remember the very happy times he had spent and the very happy acquaintances he had made in Dunedin. Mr Webster was also the recipient of a chiming clock and a silver tea service from the legal practitioners of the city Mr G. T. Baylee, who made the presentation, referred to the personal regard in which Mr Webster was held by members of the profession and to the unfailing courtesy and assistance that he had always extended to them. Mr Webster entered the service of the Justice Department at Gisborne in 1911, and later was stationed at Hastings, Napier and ■ Palmerston North. He was then appointed Clerk of Court at Taihape, and at Whakatane. After being second Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court in Auckland for five years, Mr Webster was appointed Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court in Dunedin, a position he held for the past twelve years.
