LABOUR PARTY

MEETING OF FEATHERSTON BRANCH (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held, yesterday, 104 members being present. In view of the nearness of the election, important matters of policy and finance were discussed. Fifteen new members were enrolled, which makes the Featherston branch the second-strongest in the constituency. The member for the district, Mr Ben Roberts, who was unavoidably absent, was accorded hearty congratulations on the able speech made during his seconding of the Address-in-Reply in the House of Representatives. The secretary of the branch reported that all men fit for work were non-employed, and that with large proposed undertakings being put in hand, the outlook in this district for business men and workers was very bright. The secretary was asked to forward a motion of thanks to the Hon R. Semple for coming to Featherston. Mr Semple’s meeting, it was stated, was probably the biggest meeting ever held in Featherston, and much good to the party was bound to result. At the conclusion of general business Mr G. Maloney, the secretary of the governing body of the constituency, gave an address on "The Labour Party in Relation to History,” which resulted in considerable and intelligent discussion.
