Seventeen hundred delegates from thirty countries cheered when Sudeten, followed by Czechoslovak, delegates appeared on the platform at the thirteenth annual Esperanto Congress, but Italians did not fully participate in the opening proceedings because they refused to appear on the platform on learning that Loyalist Spain was represented. * The Mayor of Saint Pancras, in welcoming the delegates, echoed a general wish that Esperanto might promote international understanding.
